Consultation

Without a clear, shared vision and widespread agreement on the key issues and priorities, this ambitious project is unlikely to succeed. The OPBG aims to involve all Peninsula residents and other stakeholders in the development of the “road map” for the project.

As such, the objectives for this process are to identify:

  • Views and opinions of pest animals on the Peninsula
  • The methods of controlling pest animals that are considered appropriate.
  • The level of support for a possum eradication programme on the Peninsula.
  • The likely level of local participation in implementing such a programme.

Since our initial consultation with the community, back in March 2009, the Group has made significant progress in understanding the possum population, how eradication may be possible, and the views of the community.

A discussion of the work that has been completed and consideration of the next steps of the project was held through October.

We are more than happy to come and talk to you or your group about the project. Please give one of the Team Members a call, or email the Project Manager, Rhys Millar, at rhysmillar@forestenvironments.co.nz
